This year's race is confirmed for Saturday, May 5 at 0800. Join us as we continue to honor Tom and support his family. Proceeds go to the Mackenzie Larner College Fund and the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. We will have chip timing again this year, and plan to upgrade to technical t-shirts for all participants (and no change in registration cost!). Registration should open in February and will be done through active.com. Check the registration page for updates.
Tom's Story
On January 24, 2008, Tom was diagnosed with cancerous lesions in his liver. After further tests, the final diagnosis was stage four metastatic colon cancer. Tom was determined from the day of diagnosis that he would fight until the end, and that he did. Tom endured many rounds of chemotherapy, removal of part of his liver, and the many side effects that accompany cancer treatments. His treatments continued almost non-stop for nearly two years, but there was never a day that Tom complained. Tom endured any and all side effects with dignity, with hope for a cure, and with the hope for another day with his family and friends. Tom worked full-time at the Staunton Police Department, missing work only for treatments and doctor's appointments. Tom was a wonderful husband, father, and friend, and maintained a very close and involved relationship with his family and friends. Tom kept his smile and his good nature about him until the end. Tom was and will always be an inspiration and hero to those who knew him and to those whose lives he touched with his inspirational and courageous journey.
